Abstract

This study investigated the influence of Facebook contents in the prevention of domestic violence against men among couples in Enugu Metropolis, Nigeria. 385 respondents drawn from the Enugu East, Enugu North, and Enugu South Local Government Areas using multistage sampling techniques. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using simple percentages mean analysis and tables. Findings revealed that at an average mean of 2.6 significant respondents were aware of domestic violence against men through Facebook posts, with many reporting shifts in perception and increased empathy toward male victims after engaging with such content. While knowledge of physical abuse was high, awareness of psychological and emotional abuse was also reported. Further analysis revealed that at, a mean score of 3.0, Facebook posts influenced positive attitudinal changes and preventive behaviors, including participation in online discussions, content sharing, and referral of victims to support services. The study concludes that Facebook serves as a viable platform for raising awareness, challenging societal stereotypes, and promoting behavioral change regarding domestic violence against men. It recommends the use of targeted Facebook campaigns, youth-led advocacy, and the integration of social media with professional support services to improve intervention efforts and gender-inclusive policy making.
