Abstract
This study examined the influence of remote and hybrid work models on employee commitment in selected organisations in Enugu State, with particular attention to the role of work flexibility. The objectives of the study were to examine the influence of remote work models on employee commitment, assess the influence of hybrid work models on employee commitment, determine the influence of remote and hybrid work models on perceived work flexibility, examine the influence of work flexibility on employee commitment, and investigate the relationship among remote work, hybrid work, work flexibility, and employee commitment. The study was anchored on Social Exchange Theory and Organizational Commitment Theory. A survey research design was adopted, and data were collected from a population of 127 employees purposively drawn from selected organisations, namely Pierlex Technologies, MTN Nigeria, Globacom (Glo), Airtel Nigeria, and the IELTS Centre, Okpara Avenue, Enugu. Given the manageable population size, a census approach was employed. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire titled Remote and Hybrid Work Models and Employee Commitment Questionnaire (RHWECQ), validated by experts and tested for reliability using Cronbach Alpha, which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.81. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis at a 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that remote work models, hybrid work models, and work flexibility significantly influenced employee commitment. The study further established that remote and hybrid work models positively influenced perceived work flexibility, while work flexibility significantly mediated the relationship between remote and hybrid work models and employee commitment. The study concluded that flexible work arrangements enhance employee commitment and recommended the adoption of structured remote and hybrid work policies supported by effective organisational flexibility systems. Keywords: Remote work, hybrid work, work flexibility, employee commitment, organisational commitment, Enugu State.
