Abstract

The Impact of Accounting Information on the Financial Performance of Manufacturing Firm: Evidence from Nigerian Breweries Plc” is entitled this study. The major aim of the study was to assess the impact of accounting information on the financial performance of Nigerian manufacturing firm through Nigerian breweries Plc as the object of study whereas the specific aim was to assess the impact of statement of financial position , statement of cash flow and statement of change in equity on the financial performance of Nigerian Breweries plc. Return on Equity (ROE) was used to measure financial performance, while accounting metrics (Total Asset ,Cash and Cash equivalents, Movement in Equity ) were used as proxies to measure the independent variables. The data used in this study were from audited Annual Financial Report of Nigerian Breweries plc over the period of 11 years (2015-2025). Analysis showed that the empirical regressions indicated that the accounting variables together account for 97.02 percent of the variation in firm profitability (R^2 = 0.9702, p=0.000010), thereby illustrating accounting information obtained from the three financial statements are strong predictors of financial performance. It was found that the statement of financial position had a statistically significant negative impact on the Return on Equity of the firm, ( = -1.67E-09; t= -6.707; p = 0.0003),owing to the volatility in foreign exchange re-evaluation and ongoing consolidations as well as the Merger of Companies ; Movement in equity also has a highly significant positive association with firm ROE ( = 1.03E-08; t=13.630 ; p= 0.0000), resulting from a success through recapitalization policy , whereas Cash held a significant positive relationship (β = 5.03E-09; t = 3.100; p = 0.0173) due to high-inflation liquidity drags. Consequently, the study concludes that published accounting disclosures remain highly relevant, and it is recommended that manufacturing firms proactively employ strategic equity restructuring to eliminate volatile debt exposures while aggressively optimizing liquid cash thresholds.
