Abstract

This study examined the utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools in the teaching and learning of Economics in senior secondary schools in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Five research questions guided the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised approximately 260,000 Economics teachers and senior secondary school students in public secondary schools in Ezeagu Local Government Area. A sample size of 200 respondents was selected using simple random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection, and the data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation. The findings of the study revealed that although some ICT tools such as computers and mobile devices were available in schools, their utilization in the teaching and learning of Economics was generally low. The study also found that teachers’ ICT competence was moderate, while major challenges affecting ICT utilization included inadequate ICT facilities, poor internet connectivity, lack of regular training, and insufficient funding. The study recommended that government and school administrators provide adequate ICT facilities, organize regular ICT training programs for teachers, and implement supportive policies that encourage the integration of ICT in secondary schools
