Abstract
The neoliberal economic reforms have not brought about the massive improvement in the socio-economic welfare needs since independent. The objective of this study is to determine the impact of neoliberal reforms on urban development in Enugu state.Expost facto research design was adopted for this work. Documentary and survey methods of data collection were used to collect data from primary and secondary sources of data respectively. Data analysis was based on qualitative and quantitative analysis. The work was predicted on the neoliberal theory. This study found that neoliberal economic reforms engendered infrastructural development in Enugu state. However, the infrastructural development of urban centers did not enhance socio-economic welfare of residents in Enugu state. On the basis of our study, we recommend among others that the government need to improve in spurring policies to boost the informal small scale business enterprise and there is also the need to improve infrastructural development in key areas like health, electricity and water supply to enhance livelihood of citizens.
