Abstract
This study examined SDG Zero Hunger and food insecurity in Africa with a focus on Nigeria. This study was motivated by the persistent rise in hunger, malnutrition, and inadequate access to nutritious food despite global and national efforts towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal Two (SDG2), which aims to end hunger and achieve food security by 2030. The objectives of the study were to verify whether food insecurity in Nigeria. The study adopted Amartya Sen’s Entitlement Theory as its theoretical framework. Aqualitative descriptive analysis (QDA) method was used, while secondary data were obtained from academic journals, government publications, and reports from organizations such as Food and Agriculture Organization, World Bank, and United Nations Children’s Fund. Findings revealed that food insecurity still persists in Nigeria further found that economic factors such as poverty and inflation, environmental factors such as climate change and flooding, and political factors such as corruption and insecurity significantly contribute to food insecurity in Nigeria. Based on these findings, the study recommended that the Nigerian government should strengthen agricultural development and food security policies through increased investment in modern farming techniques, rural infrastructure, irrigation systems, storage facilities, and climate-resilient agricultural practices while ensuring transparency and effective implementation of food security programs. The study also recommended that the government and relevant stakeholders should address economic and political factors contributing to food insecurity through inflation reduction, job creation, improved social protection programs, strengthened security, and climate change adaptation strategies.
