Abstract

In this paper, the effect of monetary policy on agricultural performance in Nigeria is examined based on time series information on 1990 to 2022. It looks at the preset variables: cash reserve ratio, money supply, interest rate, exchange rate, and inflation through multiple regression model. All the variables were found to be integrated of order one on the basis of unit root tests, which implies that a cointegration analysis was done to determine that indeed a long-run relationship exists. The short-run findings indicate that cash reserve ratio and money supply are positively significant in agricultural output and so is the interest rate. Exchange rate and inflation are negatively but not significant. Cash reserve ratio, money supply and interest rate are positive and significant while exchange rate and inflation are weak and non-significant in the long run. The paper finds that productive and controlled monetary policy may raise the productivity of the agricultural sector, and suggest to the Central Bank of Nigeria to change the policies in order to lead to availability of credit, exchange rates stability, and good rates
