Abstract
The main goal of this research is to analyze the impact of Industrialization and human resources on the unemployment rate in Nigeria for the periods 1991 to 2024. This has been done using the approach of Bounds Collaboration with Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) and Granger Causality for achievement of the stated objective. In order to make a contribution towards this goal, The Theory of Human Capital of Becker Gray (1964) has been adopted as the study’s theoretical foundation. The data required for this study was sourced from the 2024 World Bank Development Indicator for the period of the research. The research proceeded to examine the stationary properties of the data by utilizing the Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF). The unit root results indicated that literacy, life expectancy, enrollments rate, population growth rate and industrialization rates are I(1) non stationary at first differencing and; GDP per capita and unemployment rate were found to be I(0) constant at their level. The findings from the research indicated that the enrollments rate had short term, positive, and significant effect on Nigeria’s unemployment rate, and that long term effect of enrollments rates had a negative and significant influence on the unemployment rates. The research concluded that there was a short run positive effect of literacy rate on the Nigerian unemployment rate. However, there was a negative and significant effect in the long term; moreover, a significant negative short-run impact of industrialization on the unemployment rate, whereas long run effect was found to be positive and significant. Finally, there are a unidirectional causal links, one runs from enrollment rate to unemployment rate in Nigeria, while the other goes from life expectancy to unemployment rate in the study period. Nigeria government should update its school curriculum in order to equip future generations with skills to create jobs for them at all levels of education
