Abstract
The study explores the effect of human capital investment on agricultural production in Nigeria from 1990 to 2024. It specifically quantified the impact of Government education expenditure, Government health expenditure on agricultural output based on multiple regression model. It was found that the variables tested were not stationary as revealed by the test on the unit root; however an LRU relationship was established through a cointegration test. Thus, the short and long run estimated the error correction model by the ordinary least squares method and the results show that agriculture output is in the short run related positively and significantly to government education expenditure and government health expenditure whereas in the long run, the government health expenditure is related in positive and significant way with the agriculture output, but government education expenditure is tied in negative and significant way with the agriculture output. The study recommended that human capital development in the agriculture sector should receive higher investments in education and health, better implementation of human capital policies and successful financing of agricultural support measures in the context of boosting agricultural productivity.
