Abstract

This study examined United States hegemony and Ghana political economic trajectory between 2020 and 2025. The main objective was to investigate how United States influence shaped Ghana's political and economic path during the period. The specific objectives were to analyse how United States led economic policies, aid relations, trade frameworks and financial institutional influence shaped Ghana economic development strategies and to assess how United States initiatives in democratic governance, security cooperation and diplomatic engagement influenced Ghana domestic politics and foreign policy. Data came from official and viii reliable documentary sources including the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, Bank of Ghana, Ministry of Finance Ghana, United States Trade Representative, United States Department of State, USAID, AFRICOM and Freedom House. The study covered Ghana only. It used a qualitative ex post facto and documentary research design. The analysis used thematic analysis and qualitative content analysis guided by Neo Gramscianism. The first finding showed that United States led economic influence shaped Ghana development strategy through IMF reform, aid, debt policy, trade access and market confidence pressure. The second finding showed that United States governance and security initiatives shaped Ghana domestic politics and foreign policy through democracy support, civil society support, security cooperation and diplomatic dialogue. The study concluded that United States hegemony helped Ghana gain support but also reduced policy autonomy. The study recommended a Ghana Policy Autonomy Review Framework for all major external economic agreements.
