Abstract

This study investigated the effect of the Big Brother Naija (BBN) Season 10 Reality Show on the moral behaviour of the Nigerian youths. The study aimed to investigate the impact of Big Brother Naija Season 10 on attitudes, values and behaviours of the youths; if Big Brother Naija Season 10 has any contribution to the reorientation of the society norm and culture and impact of the Big Brother Naija Season 10 television programming on the ethical orientation of the youths in Godfrey Okoye University. The survey method of research was employed and 352 respondents were sampled. The quantitative research design via questionnaire was research instrument while Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was employed to test the study’s hypotheses. Findings revealed that: Big Brother Naija Season 10 has discernible impact on the attitudes, values, and behaviours of young people; Big Brother Naija Season 10 does not significantly contribute to shifts in societal norms and cultural values among youths and Big Brother Naija Season 10 reality television programming has appreciable effects on the ethical attitude of young people at Godfrey Okoye University. the study concluded that Godfrey Okoye University adolescents' attitudes, values, actions, and ethical orientation are greatly influenced by Big Brother Naija Season 10. The study concluded that Big Brother Naija Season 10 has a very great influence on the attitudes, values, and behaviour of the young people, therefore, parents and university administrators alike should give support to media literacy programmes, which will help the students to critically examine the contents on television and take up positive behavioural values.
