Abstract
The main goal of this paper is to shed light on the role of hemispheric spheres of influence in international politics by analyzing the interaction of Donroe's Doctrine with the original Monroe Doctrine even in our modern world. One of the issues examined is a set of measures inspiring the U.S. President Trump's foreign policy. Donald Trump's administration, on the one hand, wished to uphold the position of the U.S. as the main power in the western hemisphere through a quite aggressive and interventionist concept known as the American Shield, on the other hand, this idea of the American Shield was also the weapon to counter the implementation of the Chinese influence in the Latin American region which is the original area of the U.S. sphere of influence.The theoretical background of the Research is Realist Theory, which is the theory of international relations, which best describes the role of states in the international system by explaining why states act in the way they do to attain power, ensure national interest and security, and outdo rivals. Qualitative descriptive research was the main research approach. The main research material is secondary sources, especially the kind of sources coming from textbooks, academic journals, and other written legal materials such as legislative materials, official speeches, policy documents, state publications, and reliable internet sources. The paper is based on the following questions: first, did Donroe's Doctrine enhance the principles of the Monroe Doctrine? Second, did the policies of the Trump government towards Venezuela successfully limit China's influence in Latin America? Through research, it has been found out that the core of Trump's foreign policy was a renewed commitment to the leadership of the hemisphere by various means including but not limited to diplomatic pressure, economic sanctions, immigration restrictions, and openly pointing out external influences mainly China and Russia that were considered undesirable. The paper also notes that despite the fact that most of the U.S. policies were focused on countering the increased presence of China in Latin America, China has significantly strengthened its economic and strategic position in the region which it has been the major source of source of tension between the two countries since the beginning of the 21st century. In short, the paper holds the view that Donroe's Doctrine is basically the Monroe Doctrine updated to the present-day context and, therefore, is a clear evidence of the persistent relevance of the mechanisms of spheres of influence, strategic rivalry, and the quest for regional supremacy that have always been the features of international relations.
