Abstract
The influence of TikTok cyberbullying on the mental health of final-year students at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu was examined in this study. Four objectives directed the work through the level of TikTok use, the types of cyberbullying experienced, the mental health effects of such conduct and the coping strategies used by final-year students. A survey research design was used; a structured four-point Likert scale questionnaire was administered to a proportionate purposive sample of 254 final-year students from six faculties and one college in the university. From the distributed copies, 247 were completed in a valid form for analysis. The study was supported by Social Learning Theory as well as Uses and Gratifications Theory. A grand mean of 2.86 was given to TikTok use by the Likert-scale findings. Criterion mean 2.50 was exceeded by this value. Mean or hurtful comments received the highest acceptance among the forms of cyberbullying with a mean score of 2.66. An accepted effect was recorded for mood, self-worth and academic focus through an overall mean of 2.55 for the measured mental health items. Strong student support was given to informal coping strategies. These strategies included blocking attackers, speaking with trusted people and prayer. Use of the university counselling service had the lowest mean score in the study at 1.77. Platform-specific awareness education is recommended by the study. Stronger outreach from existing mental health structures is required to reduce the gap between available support and student use of that support. A focused institutional response is supported by the results. Keywords: TikTok, Cyberbullying, Mental Health, Coping Strategies, University Student
