Abstract

The research examined the moderating effect of job autonomy in the relationship between work passion and employee innovative behaviour among nurses employed at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Lagos, Nigeria. One hundred and forty (140) nurses were purposively sampled from the organization. Fifty-one of the participants were male and eighty nine were female. Data were collected using three scales: the Work Passion Scale (Chen et al., 2019), the Job Autonomy Scale (Van Veldhoven & Meijman, 1994), and the Employee Innovative Behaviour Scale (Scott & Bruce, 1994). A correlational research design was adopted for the study. The data collected from participants were analyzed using the PROCESS macro for SPSS. The results revealed that work passion significantly predicted employee innovative behaviour (B = 0.82, p = 0.02); job autonomy also significantly predicted employee innovative behaviour (B = 1.17, p = 0.009). However, job autonomy did not significantly moderate the relationship between work passion and employee innovative behaviour (B = -0.17, p = 0.23). These findings suggest that employees with stronger work passion are more likely to engage in innovative behaviour regardless of their level of job autonomy.
