Abstract

The increased use of electricity and its efficient use has led to the creation of need for smart energy monitoring systems. Traditional energy meters give less amount of information and lack 6 real-time energy monitoring capability which makes it hard for people to efficiently manage energy usage. This project highlights the design and development of IoT-Based Real Time Energy Monitoring and Management System for monitoring electrical parameters like current, voltage, and energy consumption in real time. An ESP32 microcontroller is used along with ACS712 current sensor, OLED display module and Blynk IoT platform for collecting data, processing and displaying energy consumption data wirelessly. The ESP32 acts as a processing unit which performs computations and sends data to cloud for remote monitoring using Blynk mobile application. The system was tested by connecting it to various electrical loads such as electric kettles, irons, power banks and mobile phones among others. The results showed that the system successfully captured real time energy consumption data. The system can therefore be considered as a cheap and efficient means of energy monitoring which helps in minimizing energy waste.
