Abstract
This study was carried out to examine the utilization of ICT facilities for teaching and learning of Library and Information Science (LIS) Programme in the department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Education,Kogi State University, Anyigba.Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Three research objectives and three research questions guided the conduct of the study. Simple Random Sampling technique was used to select a sample of two hundred and fifty (250) undergraduate students in the department of Library and Information Science, KSU who form the population of the study. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection and descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, mean, and percentage was used in the data analysis and presentation. The findings of the study revealed that, Computers and Server are available in the department but are rarely used for teaching and learning of LIS programme. The findings of study also revealed that,Epileptic power supplies, Lack of appropriate ICT skills required by both the students and the lecturers, Inadequate fund allocation for installation and maintenance of ICT facilities, Phobia of the use of ICT facilities in teaching and learning among the undergraduate students and Unavailability of ICT facilities for teaching and learning as the challenges associated with the utilization of ICT facilities for teaching and learning LIS programme in the department.The study recommended that, there should be prompt power supplies in the department, the department should make ICT skills a requirement for employment of new lecturers and the old lecturer must be pressured to keep themselves abreast with ICT skills relevant for LIS programme, the department should ensure commitment in the use of ICT in teaching and learning of LIS programme to attract attention of the management of the parent institution for fund allocation for the installation and maintenance of the ICT facilities in the department.
