Abstract

Family deviant behavior refers to actions or patterns within the family unit that deviate from established societal norms and value, often resulting in negative consequences for individuals and the wider society. This phenomenon encompasses a range of behaviours including domestic violence, child abuse, substance abuse, neglect and criminal activities among family members. These behaviours not only undermine the stability and functionality of the family as a social institution but also contribute to broader societal problems such as juvenile delinquency, mental health disorders and intergenerational cycles of deviance. This paper explores the root causes of family deviant behavior, including socio-economic challenges, poor parenting practices, broken homes and lack of moral guidance. Conclusively, the study highlights preventive and corrective measures such as family counseling, value reorientation and social support systems aimed at promoting healthy family dynamics and reducing deviant tendencies.
