Abstract

Th’is study seeks to exam’ine how Art’if’ic’ial ‘Intell’igence tools has ‘influenced the research output of undergraduates ‘in Enugu Metropol’is. To th’is end, ‘it sought to ascerta’in how knowledgeable undergraduates are to A’I tools, exam’ine the’ir usage of these tools and determ’ine the extent to wh’ich the adopt’ion of the tools has ‘influenced the’ir research output. The study was anchored on Technology Determ’in’ism Theory and D’iffus’ion of ‘Innovat’ion Theory wh’ile survey was adopted as the research des’ign. The populat’ion of the study covered two tert’iary ‘inst’itut’ions wh’ich are Godfrey Okoye Un’ivers’ity and Un’ivers’ity of N’iger’ia Enugu campus. W’ith a sample s’ize of 375; the mult’i-stage sampl’ing techn’ique was used ‘in the select’ion of respondents and quest’ionna’ire adopted as the ‘instrument for data collect’ion. F’ind’ings from the study revealed that at a mean value of 3.3, undergraduates ‘in Enugu Metropol’is were found to be knowledgeable about Art’if’ic’ial ‘Intell’igence tools and extens’ively use the tools for research output at an average mean of 3.1. Further f’ind’ings ‘ind’icate that at a mean value of 2.5, the adopt’ion of A’I tools negat’ively ‘influence the research output for undergraduates of Enugu Metropol’is. The study therefore recommends that measures should be enforced by the author’it’ies of un’ivers’it’ies aga’inst students who uses these tools for the’ir research. Tra’in’ing and workshops should be held to teach the students on the proper use of A’I tools.
