Abstract
This study anchors on “International migration and attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 1(Poverty) in Nigeria 2015-2024”. It examines how international migration has militated against agricultural development in Nigeria between 2015 -2024 and to examine whether the increasing Brain drain accounts for Nigeria’s inability to attain SDGs on poverty between 2015- 2024. The study adopted the Push –Pull theory propounded by Everett S. Lee in 1966. It used the ex post facto research design, documentary methods of data collection and qualitative content analysis. The study found out that the agricultural sector within the period under the study was on the deficit side due to migration of many skilled professionals and farmers abroad either because of insecurity, higher paying jobs or better working conditions and Nigeria’s inability to attain SDGs on poverty. This study suggests that Nigerian Government should seriously tackle the insecurity challenge so that migrants can channel their source to Agriculture so as to enhance agricultural development in Nigeria. It also adds that Government should address the root cause of migration by tackling poverty and corruption so as to keep hold of skilled professionals and promote economic growth and development in Nigeria.
