Abstract
This study investigates the influence of multimedia on the academic performance of senior secondary school students studying the English language in Enugu North. The research questions are, what are the multimedia facilities available for teaching the English language in senior secondary schools in Enugu North? What are the human resource challenges in the use of multimedia for English language instruction in senior secondary schools in Enugu North? What are the material resource challenges encountered in the use of multimedia for teaching the English language in senior secondary schools in Enugu North? What are the possible solutions to the human resource challenges in the use of multimedia in teaching the English language in Enugu North? The researcher made use of structured questionnaire to collect data from 100 students in English North. The findings reveal that schools don’t regularly utilize multimedia resources, such as text-based multimedia, video- based multimedia audio-based multimedia and image-based multimedia. Which demonstrates lower levels of engagement and unimproved understanding of English language concept, those are the challenges the researcher exposes in this study. Recommendations for educators and policymakers include training for teachers on multimedia applications and the development of a structured multimedia curriculum. The study adopted a descriptive survey design, the schools were selected through purposive sampling.
