Abstract
The study sought to establish the impact of SCM practices, which include inventory control, procurement methods, and supplier collaboration, on organizational performance within selected manufacturing companies in Enugu State, Nigeria, guided by the principles of the Resource Based View theory, Transaction Cost Economics, and Systems Theory through the use of descriptive survey research design. The study population consisted of 280 employees from four firms (Innoson Technical & Industrial Company Limited, Juhel Nigeria Limited, Aqua Rapha Investment Nigeria Limited, and Nosak Distilleries Limited), whereby the minimum sample size was determined based on the Taro Yamane formula to be 165. Out of the 280 questionnaires administered, 246 were usable representing an 87.86% response rate. Data were gathered using a validated questionnaire with a Cronbach Alpha value of 0.84. From the findings, it was noted that inventory control had a significant and positive impact on productivity (β = 0.621, R² = 0.386, F = 153.21, p < 0.05); procurement strategies had a significant and positive impact on quality (β = 0.593, R² = 0.352, F = 133.46, p < 0.05); while supplier cooperation had a significant and positive effect on customer satisfaction (β = 0.648, R² = 0.420, F = 177.93, p < 0.05), which is the strongest among all the three. All the three null hypotheses were rejected. It was concluded from the study that these SCM processes are significant predictors of organizational performance in manufacturing companies in Enugu State, Nigeria, with supplier cooperation being the most powerful. It was therefore suggested that organizations should consider investing in digital inventory systems, adopting quality-driven procurement and enhancing supplier cooperation – especially demand forecast sharing, which is the least advanced SCM process identified.
