Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the influence of financial assets on the financial performance of Nigerian consumer goods firms in Nigeria. Specifically, we intend to determine the impact of cash flows, book value of equity, and the current ratio on the turnover of some chosen consumer goods firms in Nigeria. Ex post facto research design is adopted, data was sourced via annual reports and financial statements of some five selected consumer goods companies traded on the Nigerian stock exchange (NGX), spanning the years 2015 through to 2024. Collected data is examined using a combination of descriptive and multiple regression statistical tools. The outcome reveals an empirically tested strong positive correlation between book value of equity and turnover; a testament to its positively effective contribution to firm financial output. An effect has been also observed with cash flows on the turnover of such businesses within the Nigerian consumer sector; albeit a strong adverse correlation. Conversely, there is equally seen a significant but negative impact with current ratio on the firms' turnover, thereby underscoring the rationale that excessive liquidity is not synonymous with an increased use of available liquid assets in ongoing firm activities. Consequently, evidence suggest all dependent variables have impacts on the firms examined; it is therefore advised by the researcher to uphold an above-average book value of equity and take care in the management of company cash flows, alongside keeping adequate yet justifiable liquidity levels.
