Abstract

The research scrutinized the impact of financial inclusion on electronic commerce in Nigeria using data spanning 2012 to 2022. It estimated the impact of digital financial inclusion, internet penetration, financial deepening, and bank branch penetration on electronic commerce using a multiple regression model. The unit roots test showed evidence of non-stationarity of the variables, but a long-run equilibrium relationship was recognized via a cointegration test. Thus, error correction model in the short-run was estimated using the ordinary least squares technique x and the results show that all financial inclusion indicators positively and significantly impact electronic commerce in Nigeria, with financial deepening showing the strongest effect. To sustain digital trade growth, the report advised targeted investments in financial infrastructure, internet accessibility, and digital financial literacy.
