Abstract
The lithostratigraphic studies of the Geology of Amuro area, in the Afikpo synclinorium were carried out. This study involved field mapping, decription of the outcrop and lithofacies analysis using the sedlog to describe each bed in the formation measured. Lithostratigraphic study shows that the group is predominantly sandstone alternating with shales , Three outcrop sections were logged based on theoutcrop which was in stratas and layers. Most of the outcrop are laminated sandtone, bioturbated sandstone, cross bedded sandstone and arenaceous sandstone. Two formations were identified during the study which are the Eze-Aku formation and the Nkporo formation, and the Eze-Aku group which belongs to the early Turonian.the results from the Eze-Aku show that they are bounded below by the santonian unconformity. Palynological studies were carried out on the samples that were gotten from the mapped areas, it helps to define the type of formation which the bed lies on and also to determine the ages of the rocks. The economic importance of the samples gotten such as dolerite, sandstone, shale, diorite sill are used for construction purposes, but rocks like diorite sill doesn’t encourage the agricultural productivity due to the mineral content of the rock.
