Abstract

The focus of this paper is to review the curriculum of the Use of English Programme in public and private universities with a view to improving upon its content. The Use of English programme is a compulsory course which all first year undergraduate students of all universities must take and pass before they graduate. This study adopted a descriptive survey design using a sample of the curriculum of four out of the six universities in Enugu State. Two of the universities are public–University of Nigeria Enugu Campus and Enugu State University of Science and Technology and two private- Godfrey Okoye University and Caritas University, Emene. The curricula of these universities were used for comparative analysis. The contents of their progrmmes for USE for the four –year period of study was examined and evaluated. Recommendations were made based on the findings.
