Abstract

This study examines the effect of cash flow management on financial performance of listed brewery firms in Nigeria with Nigerian Breweries Plc as the study reference. Specifically, the study determined the effect of operating cash flow, investing cash flow, and financing cash flow on return on assets of brewery firms. The study adopts an ex-post facto research design, and time series data were obtained from the selected firm listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group over the period 2016– 2025. Data were sourced from audited annual reports of the selected firm. The regression technique was employed for data analysis. The empirical results reveal that Operating Cash flow has a negative and non-significant effect on the Return on Asset of brewery firms in Nigeria. The study further revealed that Investing Cash flow has a positive and significant effect on the Return on Asset of brewery firms in Nigeria. Finally, study further revealed Financing Cash flow has a statistical positive but non-significant effect on the Return on Asset of brewery firms in Nigeria. Consequent upon the findings, the study recommends that Management of Brewery firms should strategies to improve the Efficiency of Operating Cash Flow Management, sustain and expand profitable Investment Activities and finally, optimize Financing Decisions by ensuring that funds obtained through financing activities are effectively utilized in projects capable of generating sufficient returns to improve financial performance.
