Abstract
The study examines The influence of social media promotion of herbal medicine on the health behavior of residents in Enugu East local government area. The major problem to this study is to ascertain the high rate of misleading and fake herbal medicine that is being promoted on social media, and how it has influenced individuals to employ self meditation. This research ascertain four objectives, level of exposure to herbal medicine promotions on social media, level of effectiveness, the regulatory bodies put in to prevent the spread of fake herbal medicine promotions on social media. factors that persuades residents to purchase herbal medicines from social media, perceptions about herbal medicine promotion . A descriptive survey was employed, It uses the sample size of 400 residents derived from the population of 454,087 individuals,Using the Tayo yamane formula, 350 respondents were returned and used for analysis, Structured questionnaire were used as data instructment, which was analyzed using frequency table and percentage, Findings reveals that 40% of respondents are exposed to herbal medicine on social media, 39% of respondents have frequently come across social media campaigns on herbal medicine promotion, 59% of individuals revealed that regulatory bodies are not effective, it also revealed that testimonial (22%) was the major factor that persuade residents to purchase herbal medicine on social media, 60% of individuals percived that herbal medicine promotion on social media isn't safe, It concludes that there is no effective monitoring on social media, and a lot of individuals don't have good perception of herbal medicine promotion on social media due to the high rate of fabrication.
