Abstract
This study examines the politics of exclusion and its Impact on African Representation in the United Nations Security Council. Specifically the study sought to determine to discuss and analyse the marginalisation of African states in the major decision-making processes of the United Nations Security Council through the veto power of the Security council's members and to analyse the reasons why African states are excluded from the decision-making process in the United Nations Security Council with reference to informal diplomacy in the Council. By adopting expo facto research design, documentary methods from secondary data, post colonial theory, the study found that unequal distribution of power limits Africa's ability to influence critical decisions affecting the continent; and the study also found that the informal processes are largely controlled by the permanent members, while African states, including elected members of the Council, have very limited opportunities to shape agendas or influence outcomes. The study therefore concluded and recommend that Security Council reform to grant Africa at least two permanent seats with veto power in line with the Ezulwini Consensus Keywords: Politics of Exclusion, African Representation, Institutional Racism, United Nations Security Council
