Abstract

This study examined the knowledge, attitude and practice of Enugu State social media users regarding Facebook representation of hepatitis in Nigeria. Specifically, it assessed users' level of knowledge, perceptions, behavioural responses, and the factors influencing their understanding of hepatitis information shared on Facebook. The study adopted a survey research design. The population comprised an estimated 1.2 million social media users in Enugu State, while a sample size of 384 respondents was determined using Cochran's formula. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analysed using frequency, percentage and mean statistics. Findings revealed that Facebook contributed positively to respondents' knowledge of hepatitis, promoted favourable attitudes towards prevention and treatment, and encouraged positive health practices such as screening, vaccination and information sharing. However, misinformation, irregular exposure to health content and limited access to credible information affected users' understanding. The study recommends increased dissemination of accurate hepatitis information by public health agencies through Facebook and strengthened efforts to combat health misinformation on social media.
