Abstract
ABSTRACT Nigeria is a culturally diverse country with various ethnic, religious, and cultural communities. Due to these various diversities, the Nigerian community faces challenges with regards to the provision of inclusive representation in governmental and institutional positions. Therefore, the Federal Character Principle was established to address such difficulties.This paper highlights some of the information concerning the Federal Character Principle as practiced in Nigeria. It focuses on the origin, objectives, practice, and implementation of the principle, as well as discusses various ways in which various multinational communities cope with the problems associated with diversity. Moreover, the paper highlights the challenges facing the implementation of this policy in Nigeria. Research shows that the Federal Character Principle plays an important role in enhancing representation and inclusion in various public bodies and institutions. Nevertheless, there are some challenges related to this principle, which include the problem of interference with its implementation processes, favoritism, inefficiency, and political issues.
