Abstract

The project is meant to develop an intelligent chatbot which would offer assistance to students of African universities and also provide other administrative services at the institutions in question. This particular research was done in order to create such a chatbot for Godfrey Okoye University situated in the state of Enugu. This study arose from problems that the students of the particular institution had when trying to obtain necessary administrative information through various channels of communication in their institution. A hybrid approach was used, which involved application of Natural Language Processing technology for recognition of user intentions and creation of the knowledge base in the form of rules which was based on information from official documentation of the institution. The software was developed using JavaScript with the help of Next.js framework as well as HTML and CSS for web interface. The knowledge base included data about admissions, course registration, examinations, fees, hostels, results, and policies regarding the students and was organized according to the specified categories and stored in the structured format. The model was installed locally and tested functionally through several input cases, each producing valid outputs. The implemented chatbot system proved the feasibility of the use of a supervised and institutionally controlled AI-based system for the enhancement of accessibility, reliability, and efficiency of administrative services in universities.
