Abstract
This study investigated the soft skills possessed by computer science education students of private universities in Enugu State for teaching in the era of Fourth Industrial Revolution. Four research questions guided the study. This study adopted a descriptive survey research approach. The population for this study was 150 third-year Computer Science Education undergraduates from private universities in Enugu State. A sample size of 109 third-year Computer Science Education students across the selected private universities in Enugu State was used for the study. Tare Yamane formula was used to obtain the size. The instrument used for this study is a structured questionnaire titled investigation of soft skills possessed by students for teaching in the Fourth Industrial Revolution Questionnaire (ISSST4IR). The validity of the instrument was ascertained using three experts, two from Computer Science Education programme and one from Measurement and Evaluation all from the Faculty of Education of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu. The Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient 0.78 for the instrument was established. A total of 109 questionnaire was distributed while 100 were retrieved after completion from the respondents. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistical method of Mean and Standard. The finding of the study indicates that students of Computer Science Education possess Communication Skill, Teamwork Skill, Problem-solving skills and Leadership skills required for teaching in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It is therefore concluded that students who incidentally are digital natives possess necessary soft skills for teaching in this era. It is recommended among others that soft skills should be incorporated in the University curricular to enable students upskill themselves in soft skills.
