Abstract

The purpose of the study is to find out the recent trends in students anti-social behaviour and its implication on the future of education in Nsukka Educational Zone, Enugu State. The design of the study was descriptive research survey. The target population for the study consists of thirty-one (31) public Secondary Schools with 10,790 senior students in Nsukka Educational Zone. The schools selected for the study were sampled using random sampling techniques. Five public secondary schools out of the thirty-one (31) public secondary schools were sampled to give a fair representation of the schools in the education zone. 200 senior students were selected from the secondary schools in the sample. The research made use of questionnaire for data collection. The instrument received face validation and was subjected to reliability test using t-test. Mean score were to analyze the data collected. As result of the study and analysis of results, the following findings were made that the consequences of anti-social behaviour on the education performance of students include poor academic performance; insecurity in the schools; rancor between the teachers and students; hatred of the teachers by the students and increase in the rate of crimes in the school. Finally the study recommended among others that teachers and that assessment and remediation measures should run across urban and rural areas to avoid contamination of anti-social behaviours.
