Abstract
The main purpose of the study is to determine the influence of biology practical activities on academic achievement of senior secondary school, in Enugu East L.G.A, Enugu state. A descriptive survey design was used for the study. The sample for the study comprised of one hundred and fifty (150) students drawn from the population of 1491 using simple random sampling techniques. Four research questions were guided the study. The instrument was validated by one experts from science and vocational education, Godfrey Okoye University Enugu and two in measurement and evaluation. The questionnaires were administered to SS II students and were collected by the researcher, and mean was used to analyze the collected data. The result from the analysis showed that students understands better when they involve themselves in practical experiment, thus matching theory with practical, there is no clear different between female and male on academic achievement in biology. Some recommendations were also made, such as: Teachers should encourage students to develop interest in practical activities by engaging them in practical and providing instructional materials involved during practical lessons, the government should provide more adequate qualified competent biology teachers and the government should provide fund for school so as to enable them procure the relevant resources for effective teaching and learning biology in all the public secondary schools in Enugu North local Government Area. Finally, the limitations of the study and suggestions for further studies were made.
