Abstract
Both earn substantial salaries. They are affluent. The child is better fed, better clothed, but he is a neglected child. With the parents heavily occupied with the quest for material progress nobody has an; time for the child. Now- adays everybody is always going somewhere or doing something. The modern Nigerian parents have little or no time with or for their children. The children thus deprived of love, care and attention to their more personal and emotional needs, soon start to suffer from affectional and emotional anemia and then again soon start to drift away from home in search of what that home has failed to supply. They finally land on the shores of delinquency and crime." (1) Juvenile delinquency as a phenomenon is now a "nor- mal" way of life, an occupational hazard for the love- forsaken adolescent. How to check or control this issue has become a constant worry for the parents, educators and religious ministers. It is a big challenge for the society at large. We cannot dismiss it with the wave of the hand or treat it lightly. In many places, statistics show that it is on a steady increase, and its consequences are not mini mal. One American report shows the following: "There has been a vast increase in juvenile delinquency during the past ten years, and it has been stated that one out of every ten urban males will have at least one juvenile court appearance. In 1969, nearly one million children aged 10 to 17 were brought before juvenile courts.
