Abstract
The source of the doctrine of Justification is a much debated topic within Pauline studies. After a brief review of some of the main sources of this doctrine, the author comes out in favour of Paul's Old Testament background, asserting that the creation-covenant scheme in the Pentateuch provides the apostle with his theological foundation in the Letter to the Romans. In the Letter to the Romans, the creation-covenant scheme finds expression in the theme of the revelation of God's righteousness (Rom 1:16-17; 2:21-25; 9:30-10:21). Since the principal founts of the research are narrative texts from the Pentateuch, the author coordinated the use of narrative analysis and the canonical method to show how Paul implies that the dynamics of the God-human relationship in creation are re-ordered around the figure of Christ
