Abstract

Writing from a biblical perspective, the author argues that the pentecostal phenomenon has always been present in the Church, right from the time of the Corinthian Church., but was often lost due to the prevailing worldly life-style. She thus sees pentecostalism, despite its shortcomings, as a call to the Church for self examination. External manifestations of possession spiritual gifts, especially the gift of tongues, continues to be considered as marker of authenticity and source of division in the Church. The paper proposes the application of Paul's catechesis to the Corinthians as effective pedagogical tool for the resolution of the same ongoing problem in today's church.
