Abstract

AMOBONI which is Dr. Idachaba's first published play is no doubt a classic. In this play the playwright is able to ingeniously fuse conflict and suspense to sustain interest. The play deals with the age long human voice of betrayal of trust. It is also a good example of the recurrent theme of conflict of cultures in colonial Africa. It is a story of intrigue and conspiracy. Amoboni is a traditional ruler whose life is committed to the custom and tradition of his people, in his determination to uphold the traditions of his forebears and his worldview he gets into conflict with the colonial administration symbolized by Mr. Muffet the colonial district officer.
