Abstract
The study examined the INFLUENCE OF RADIO BIAFRA’S SECESSION CAMPAIGNS ON RESIDENTS OF ENUGU STATE. The objective of the study is to ascertain if residents of Enugu State listen to Radio Biafra, to ascertain the level of acceptance of Radio Biafra messages and to find out the behaviour of Enugu residents towards non-speaking Nigerians after exposure to Radio Biafra. The theory used for the study is Lasswell Propaganda Theory and Lippman Theory of Public Relation Formation of the media. The methodology of the study involved that use of survey method and the research instrument used was the self-administered questionnaire to elicit relevant information from a sample size of 384 respondents. The Purposive sampling was used to select the respondents. The data gathered were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) in form of tables, percentages and frequency count. The findings of the study disclosed that majority of the residents of Enugu listen to radio Biafra and most of them believe the message content on radio Biafra, majority of the residents strongly agree that radio Biafra represent the Igbo properly and most of them also agree that radio Biafra is a credible source of information and has enable majority of the receiver perception towards secession changed after listening to radio Biafra. The study concluded that the residents of Enugu listen to radio Biafra on several occasion and believe the message content on radio Biafra. The people strongly agree that radio Biafra represent the Igbo properly and has enable majority of the receiver perception towards secession changed after listening to it messages. The study recommended that the media is a powerful tool in the society and should be sure of information being broadcasted to the people. Hence the media should help in the promotion of ethical reporting and government should help in the sensitization of the Nigerians on factual information about the agitation and campaign of Biafra.
