Abstract

ABSTRACT The study is centered on the effect of training and development on organization performance in Nigeria Brewery 9th mile corner, Enugu. In pursuit of the following objectives: To examine how training and development contribute to the individual performance in the organization of this study. To verify perceptions of the employees on how training and development proved to be beneficial to them and to identify employees competency levels as enhanced by the training and development implemented. A survey research was carried out in the area of the study and the population of the study of 3,758 was obtained from Nigeria Brewery. Sample size of 362 was determined using Taro Yamane’s statistical formula. Questionnaire of 362 were distributed and 300 Questionnaire were returned and the percentage of return rate is 83%. Tables and Chi Square statistical tools were used for presentation and analysis respectively. Findings of the study shows that Training and development have an impact on the performance of employees with regards to their jobs. This result is broadly consistent with prior management literature on training and development. The study concludes that the importance of training and development in the corporate world has been highlighted in the previous literature. Thus, it is essential to examine any issues related to training and development in any business sector. Recommendation from the study states that Nigeria Brewery 9th mile corner should ensure that the following are instituted at the work place. First, identification of training needs should be done more professionally in conjunction with the line manager as well as the individuals involved together with the Human Resource personnel.
