Abstract
This study of Luke 14:15-24 considers the literary characteristcs, context and two important aspects of the text in order to expose the socio-economic relations that engender poverty in the human community. The author considers the story of Luke 14 as a parable for the Church in Africa, especially in regard to the church's vocation to defend the poor and to adopt a system of relationship and structure that excludes no one.
