Abstract
Here, the author attempts a description of the problem and situation that necessitated Paul's teaching on matters relating to expressions of Christian faith that are considered un-orthodox during worship. Insisting that the word of God is a symbolic entity that requires interpretation, the author proposes an attentive reading of 1 Cor 12:1-3 as one out of many preventative measures the Church has taken to preserve both the deposit of faith and the image of God that the word reveals.
