Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of employee engagement on organizational performance of academic staff of Godfrey Okoye University. It also investigated that employee engagement has emerged as a potential factor of organizational performance. The researcher used the survey research design and the population comprised of 268 academic staff of Godfrey Okoye University also, Taro Yamane formula was adopted in determining the sample size. 160 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents and 150 were retrieved. The administered data was collected by the use of Likert scale questionnaire of 1-5 which was analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The research hypotheses were tested with Pearson Correlation Coefficient to establish the significant relationship between the variables which are employee recognition, employee personal growth and communication used in measuring performance and also, the relationship between the dependent variable; organizational performance and independence variable which is employee engagement. The result of the analyzed data shows that there is a significant effect of employee engagement on organizational performance. From the findings on the study it was known that employee’s recognition plays a vital role on organization performance, thereby making the employee to have a sense of belonging in the organization which will increase their productivity in the organization. It recommended that the organization should see to it that they do not only concentrate on top managers alone but should as well concentrate on employees as their commitment highly needed in the organizational development and performance. It further showed that, employee’s engagement will lead to better organizational performance and productivity.
