Abstract
This study examined Boko Haram insurgency and national security, 2002-2017. The study was necessitated on the premise that terrorism has affected lives all over the world and has resulted in negating world peace at an alarming rate. The objectives of the study were to examine whether the incidence of terrorism has impacted on national security; and to ascertain the effects of terrorism on Nigerians foreign policy. Secondary data was used and the Marxian political economy theory formed a basis of theoretical analysis. The expose facto research design was adopted and data was analyzed using the quantitative descriptive method. The findings of the research proved that no nation can guarantee absolute security to its citizens without collaboration with the larger international community; terrorism is an act of violence and violence is a continuation of politics by other means. The study recommends a continuous capacity building for intelligence and security operatives and agencies; and the initiation of counter terrorist measures to prevent attacks from terrorists.
