Abstract

The essay investigates the important role the migrant status of early Israel played in the structuring of the biblical story. Two important parts of the Old Testament - the Pentateuch and the Deuteronomistic History- are structurally enveloped within events of migration in and out of the land. The importance which Israel gives to events of her nomadic experiences invites a religious interpretation of contemporary migrations of Africans.
