Abstract
In recent times, the issue of media reportage of socio-political issues that affect the various ethnic groups in Nigeria has become a thing of concern. This is because the country has many ethnic groups that clamour for recognition in the political environment ("polisphere") of the nation. Niweze (2012, para. 4) captured the nature of the country's ethnic diversity when he noted that: Ethnic conflict is no small fry... in Nigeria, especially with over two hundred and fifty ethnic groups and five hundred living languages. The country .had high cacophony of tongues, customs, and marriage rites, which inevitably have created some level of preferential treatment among ethnic groups. This particular situation is most certainly responsible for the miserable condition of the nation.
