Abstract

What we today know as EZERA - Ezeagu Ecclesiastics and" Religious Association - traces her origin back to the Ezeagu , Seminarians Association, which was founded in 1972, Brother Felix .Chinagu (Umana Ndi-uno), Vincent Chiakwa and James Chinze', (Mgbagbu Owa), Joe Peters Ani (Obeleagu Umana), Francis Ike, (Umana Ndiagu), Patrick Chibuko (Okpueze Umumba), and others,' were seminarians at St John Cross Minor Seminary, Nsukka. Feelings, of common patrimony and vocation led them to meet at regular intervals during free periods in the seminary to encourage one another on the way to the priesthood, When they discovered that the formators, in the seminary did not fancy such "local" or "clannish" meetings, these Ezeagu seminarians sought avenues of continuing this edifying' association outside the seminary Therefore, the first formal meeting of Ezeagu Seminarians Association took place at Our Lady of Lourdes, Imezi Owa, in 1972, At that time, there were only two parishes in Ezeagu, namely, Sacred Heart, Iwollo, and Our Lady of Lourdes, Imezi Owa. The then Parish Priest of Imezi Owa, Rev Fr Anthony Okonkwo, welcomed, encouraged and hosted the meeting of Ezeagu Seminarians Association during the Easter holiday. The meeting was henceforth scheduled to take place every year during the saII?-e period.
